At your local New Jersey Chevrolet dealer, we’re excited about the Chevy Volt. Along with this new car will come a new manufacturing plant in Michigan.
General motors has recently announced that it will be building a new manufacturing plant. The plant, which will be located in Flint, Michigan, will serve to produce fuel efficient 4-cylinder engines. The new plant is expected to cost General Motors approximately $370 million.
This new Flint plant will be the only facility in North American that will produce GM’s 1.4 liter naturally aspirated engine. This is the engine that is going to be used in the new Chevy Volt.
The Volt is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is believed that the Volt will be able to travel up to 40 miles without using any gasoline whatsoever, and while producing no emissions. GM revealed the production version of the Volt this month. Chevrolet expects to start building the new Chevy Volt some time in 2010.
It addition to the Volt, it is believed that the 1.4 liter engine will be used in the Chevrolet Cruze. The Cruze is a fuel-efficient compact car that is expected to be released sometime in 2010.
The plant itself will also take steps to better the environment. It will be LEED certified. It will also be free of landfill use. Any waste produced from the manufacturing process will be converted to energy, reused, or recycled.
