NJ Chevrolet Dealer Applauds Fewer Traffic Deaths in 2008

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Your Chevrolet dealer wants to recognize and applaud New Jersey drivers for being safer than ever in 2008. According to AAA Mid-Atlantic, traffic-related deaths in 2008 fell below 600, making last year the safest on record for the Garden State.

“It appears to be an historic low,” said David Weinstein with AAA Mid-Atlantic. “The significant decrease in the number of miles we’re driving is absolutely a contributing factor. Coupled with all-time high seatbelt usage, the proliferation of effective traffic safety advocacy and aggressive enforcement of laws, New Jersey is on the right track.”

Of course, a major reason for fewer traffic deaths is because New Jerseyeans (as well as everybody across the country) didn’t drive as much in 2008 as they did in previous years. Gas prices kept more people home and others finding alternative forms of transportation during most of last year.

The year saw 562 fatal crashes with a total of 597 losing their lives on NJ roads last year. Before 2008, the previous annual lows were in 2000 and 2004 when 723 people died as the result of traffic-related incidents. In 2007, 724 fatalities were reported on the roads.

With the state’s roads safer than they’ve ever been, you have just one more reason to visit your Union area New Jersey Chevrolet dealer. You can get a new or certified used vehicle and have a little more confidence that you will avoid accidents when driving around the state.
